Computing module for pitched roofs

The Dimetris pitched roof calculator helps to calculate the actual pitched roof geometry quickly and easily. The program will help you to easily find out the actual area of the pitched roof or the length of its individual elements (joints, purlins, ridges, etc.) of the building you are designing or that exists.

If the calculation is performed on the roof of a new building, then a PDF roof plan as well as one or more facades of the building must be loaded into the Dimetris application. After uploading the drawings, the scale of the drawings shall be determined by specifying at least one known dimension of the roof or facade. After this step, the Dimetris application will set the base scale for all the loaded drawings, so you can forget about applying it. After scaling, a “bypass” of the roof contour is performed with the corresponding function. The outline of each individual roof slope must be drawn. After these steps, you need to enter the height of the roof elements. The heights of the roof elements are calculated from the information in the facade drawings. Once you have completed all these steps, you can check that the Dimetris has correctly performed the geometry simulation by simply pressing the 3D rendering button.

Important note

After all the above steps have been completed, the actual roof dimension information will be displayed on the roof plan drawing (actual roof area after slope assessment, actual length of roof tin elements after slope assessment, etc.).

Roof calculations

We estimate that the calculation of the quantities for any simple roof (4-6 slopes) will take an unskilled user between 2-5 minutes. For complex roofs (6-20 and more slopes) the calculation will take approximately 10-15 min per roof.

The Dimetris Roof Module can be used even for existing buildings. At least 3 drone photographs will be required for the calculation. One of the photos must be taken perpendicular to the ground plane (the full outline of the roof must be clearly visible). The other 2 (1 baseline and 1 control) are the photos of facades. At least one of the lengths of the elements clearly visible in the photograph must be measured with a tape measure (e.g. the width of a window) during the photo-recording work. With these photos , the process is the same as in the PDF version, but more attention is needed for scaling. The facade photo is used to determine the scale and the roof contour photo is used to calculate quantities.

This feature is very convenient in cases where it is difficult to climb on the roofs of buildings, physical measurement takes a long time, there is a risk of injury, measurement is expensive (hired arborists, lifting equipment). With the Dimetris solution you will not need all of this, because having a simple cheap drone and standing safely on the ground you can calculate all the necessary information very accurately.

Important note. The photocapture can be carried out not by a qualified roofing specialist, but by an ordinary person with a licence to operate a drone. The most important thing for the operator is to know how to take pictures correctly so that the engineer can make the necessary calculations later.

Advantages of the Roof Module

We have highlighted the main advantages compared to the old methods.

  • Speed 92%

  • Accuracy 97%

  • Efficiency 100%

  • Possibilities 88%

Advantages of the roof module:

  • Very fast and accurate calculation of quantities from a PDF drawing
  • Very fast and accurate calculation of roof quantities for existing buildings from a photo
  • Measure existing roofs safely from the ground, no need to climb on the roof
  • Data collection for roof calculations can be carried out by unqualified personnel
  • The actual roof dimensions and quantities are activated on the drawing or photo and can therefore be used as a production drawing.
  • You will know exactly the lengths of the inner and outer joints, purlins and ridges.
  • It is possible to fully automate the estimates for roofs by different types.
  • Roof calculations will be performed by management personnel who have no specialized engineering knowledge.

  • Roofers (craftsmen)
  • Roofing sellers
  • Estimators
  • Insurance companies
